City of Boulder

Settlement in Boulder began with the formation of "Boulder City Town Company" in 1859 upon the discovery of gold in Gold Hill. You can still find the original town of Gold Hill by driving west on Mapleton Ave.  Boulder is just a short 35 mile drive from the center of Denver and 90 minutes from some of the best skiing in the world; Vail, Beaver Creek, Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, Copper Mountain, Winter Park and Breckinridge. The city is composed of 25.37 miles with a population of aprox, 93,000,  and is home to The University of Colorado, with a student body of 30,000.

The center of Boulder has the Pearl Street Mall, a pedestrian shopping area that has street artists year round. You may recognize the charming location from recent films. People come from all over the world to participate in the "Bolder Boulder" 10K Memorial Day Race that ends with at Folsom Field. This City has many Cultural & Arts Festivals including the Shakespeare Festival every summer.

Boulder has thousand of acres of open space, and adopted the building height restriction ordinance in 1977.  The city also has a "Historic Preservation Code"  encouraging the preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings.
